The EEP Knowledge Exchange Forum in Nairobi

The Energy and Environment Partnership Programme – Southern and East Africa (EEP-SEA) organized a Knowledge Exchange Forum on the 20th of September 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. The main objective of the event was to share experiences and ideas on renewable energy in East Africa.

The EEP-SEA has supported more than 220 projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and this particular forum had almost 100 participants interested in sharing and brainstorming on ways to further develop their projects or businesses. Most of the projects the EEP has supported are run by private sector organizations specializing in renewable energy services and/or products.

The EEP organizes two Knowledge Exchange Forums a year, one in Southern Africa and one in East Africa so that the projects we have supported can talk to each other. In addition to facilitating specific industries, such as mini-grid developers in Kenya or solar PV developers in Tanzania, to get together, the EEP Programme aims to assist the projects with giving them further instruments to develop their projects or businesses. Particular focus of this Knowledge Exchange Forum was to link the projects with other potential financiers. The EEP Programme gives grants to renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in their early stages of development, and always requires co-funding from the project developer themselves.

The EEP Programme is funded by the Governments of Finland, the UK, and Austria. The total budget of the Programme is about 65 million euro (during 2010-2017). Please see more information at the EEP Africa's homepage .
