Risk and Financial Management Workshop 25-26 October 2016 in Johannesburg

The Embassy of Finland in Pretoria, organized a 2-day training workshop on Risk and Financial Management for its development partners from the 25th to the 26th of October 2016. This was a follow up workshop from the 2015 workshop on Results Based Management. The aim of this training was to provide our partners with information and skills on how to identify, manage and mitigate risks related to financial management, project implementation, slow progress, external factors and the reputation of the financer, as well as the project implementers .The workshop also introduced some useful tools i.e. the means and ways on how to better mitigate some of this risks.

Group Work and Reflections

The programme consisted of group work and discussions. We received very positive feedback on how practical the workshop was. On both days participants had a lot of time to score their own organization's work and also to learn from each other. We also looked at the new manual for Bilateral Programmes on Project Design and Implementation, focusing more on risk management. This also gave them exposure to donor perspectives and the link between technical and financial management.

At the end of the workshop participants managed to link the past two workshops on Human Rights Approach and Results Based Management to the Risk and Financial Management training. These topics are very import to us and our development partners. As the Embassy we are very happy and proud that we have managed to organize all these training workshops in the past 3 years. Participants were given an opportunity to suggest topics for the future, particularly for 2017. Two of the topics that were identified are Monitoring & Evaluation and Sustainability Strategies/Diversifying Funding.
