
In Finland's Development Policy regional cooperation complements other channels of development assistance. The Southern African region is one of Finland's main partners in regional co-operation. The Ministry for Foreign Affaris of Finland has also an active role as an International Cooperating Partner to regional organizations such as SADC, NEPAD and other.
The Energy Partnership (EEP-S&EA) project will support small renewable energy and energy efficiency projects (feasibilitys studies and pilot/test projects) in eight Southern and Eastern African countries (Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Swaziland, Tanzania). The project supporting the Basel-center will facilitate the implementation of the Basel Convention (hazardous waste management agreement) in the English-speaking African countries.
During the Renewable Energy Support Programme a renewable energy strategy will be compiled for the SADC countries and the capacity of the SADC Secretariat in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency will be supported.
The Regional innovation project (SAIS) will support the innovation centers in Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. See the programme website here.
